HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was enacted in 1996 by Congress to accomplish several things:

• Protect health insurance coverage for workers and their families when they change or lose their jobs.
• Establish a national standard for electronic health care transactions and national identifiers for providers, health insurance plans, and employers.
• Address the overall security and privacy of health data (for AIMcrm users this means the electronic personal health information, or ePHI).

GLBA

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act was truly established to allow the consolidation of financial institutions, but brought with it very strict security and privacy guidelines.
